Minister Snowdon announces big plans for Larrakeyah Barracks

Mr Warren Snowdon, Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, recently took the opportunity to visit Larrakeyah Barracks in Darwin and announce the start of construction on 97 new homes for Defence families.

The local media were in attendance as Minister Snowdon made the exciting announcement and spoke about the careful planning that has been taken to redevelop the site to its full potential.

Northern Territory Chief Minister Paul Henderson was also in attendance and strolled through the site with Peter Howman, DHA’s Chief Operating Officer, and Chris Giannikouris, Construction Manager for Halikos.

Minister Snowdon expressed his enthusiasm for the project and the benefits it will pass onto the local community.

‘This is a fantastic initiative that will not only increase the numbers of houses on base at Larrakeyah from 61 to 97, but also will reduce pressure on the tight Darwin housing market,’ Mr Snowdon said.
‘Australian Defence personnel deserve the best; we will give them the best.’

The first houses to be completed for this project are scheduled to be ready in June 2012.
