Concrete poured and work underway on new Defence homes in Brisbane
Work has commenced on 41 new Defence homes in Brisbane, part of the Federal Government's Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan (NB ESP).
The homes are the first of 103 new properties which will be built by Defence Housing Australia (DHA) under the Stimulus Plan in the Brisbane area over the next two years.
According to the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowdon, the NB - ESP is being quickly rolled out by the Australian Government to support jobs in the economy. In fact, just two months have elapsed between the announcement of the stimulus plan and the start of construction on these homes.
The local economy and community will also benefit from the construction of the new homes, with increased employment in the construction and building supplies industries.
DHA is being provided with $251.6 million in funding under the NB - ESP to construct a total of 802 new Defence homes across the country.
The new housing will be located to support Defence operational centres in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Victoria, Hobart, Townsville, Cairns, Hunter Valley, Ipswich, Sydney, Wagga Wagga, Wodonga, Nowra and Toowoomba.
