Crace delivers first Defence homes in time for Christmas

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) have delivered 27 new houses in Canberra's newest suburb of Crace, with a further eight expected to be finished before Christmas.

In a key hand-over ceremony in early December, Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, officially opened the recently completed Defence houses.

The handover signifies the completion of the first stage of a four year multi-million dollar DHA development, which will consist of up to 300 Defence houses.

"Next year stage two of the project will begin, with another 37 new houses to be built for Defence personnel and their families," said Mr Snowdon.

Canberra's own Federal member for Fraser, Dr Andrew Leigh, was at the ceremony in Crace and welcomed the announcement of further houses for Defence families.

"I welcome these new defence families to Gungahlin and know they'll find it a great place to live," said Dr Leigh.

Crace is located on the edge of the Barton highway leading into Canberra making it easily accessible to many of Canberra's amenities. It is just a 10 minute drive from Canberra's city centre and only five minutes from the local Gungahlin shopping precinct.

The project in Crace, should also ease the strain on Canberra's rental market as well as provide local jobs and help local businesses over the next four years as the project develops.

The first 35 houses will be available to Defence families who will move in over the peak posting period.
