Defence Housing Australia supports 20 new apprenticeships

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is supporting the creation of 20 new apprenticeship places in the residential construction industry.

Through the DHA Apprenticeship Support Scheme, DHA will subsidise the new places, available to first time apprentices and past apprentices whose placements were discontinued due to factors beyond their control.

The Scheme complements the Government’s announcement of $251.6 million in funding to DHA for the construction of an additional 802 residential houses under the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan.

The new apprenticeships will be located in the areas where DHA will have intense construction activity over the next few years – ACT (2), Adelaide (5), Brisbane (4), Darwin (5) and Townsville (4).

The Scheme will be operated locally on DHA’s behalf by a number of existing apprenticeship schemes.

The Scheme is due to commence in early June.
