Muirhead housing estate underway
Defence Housing Australia, in conjunction with Investa Property Group, recently held a ground breaking ceremony to signify the commencement of stage one of the new Darwin suburb, Muirhead.
Peter Howman, DHA’s Chief Operating Officer, addressed the media and attendees before partaking in the ground breaking, along with Scott MacDonald, Investa CEO, and Dr Chris Burns, Minister for Public and Affordable Housing.
The exciting new housing development will deliver approximately 1,200 housing lots; of these over 300 will be allocated for Defence members and their families moving to the ‘Top End’.
“Our main focus with this project is to ensure the housing will be high quality and well suited to the local conditions” said Mr Howman.
“The housing designs proposed will have a diverse mix of tropical features such as cross flow ventilation, open plan designs and covered outdoor living areas. All houses will meet a minimum six star energy efficiency rating in accordance with the sustainable master plan of the development,” he said.
The development will be situated on a 167ha site only 16km from the Darwin Central Business District. Completion of the seven stage project is due by 2019.
