Yallambie residences receive a new lease on life
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) manages almost 770 properties across Melbourne; of these 226 are located in the leafy suburb of Yallambie.
As Yallambie is conveniently positioned near Simpson Barracks, Oakleigh Barracks and other Defence establishments in the inner city, there is a high demand for Defence housing in the area.
Taking into consideration the strategic importance of retaining the houses in this location, DHA has been progressively upgrading the properties it owns in Yallambie since 2007.
The Yallambie Upgrade Program will see 166 properties receive ‘a new lease on life’ through a range of major facelifts inside and out. These include:
- full internal and external painting
- new kitchen appliances
- renovated bathrooms and en-suites
- new carpets, blinds, garage doors and hot water systems
- enhanced heating and cooling
- increased storage and
- drought-effective landscaping.
Recently the midpoint of the program was celebrated with the 83rd fully upgraded property open and on show for inspection. Members from the nearby Simpsons Barracks were invited to come and have a look at the house. Contractors who have worked on the upgrade program and DHA staff also attended the event.
The work completed under the Yallambie Upgrades Program will extend the life of these homes by a further 10-15 years; a worthwhile investment by all accounts.
