Frequently asked questions
When did the deployment policy change?
The deployment policy was released by Defence on the 3rd September effective 3rd September 2009. Refer to last FAQ for details about your application if deployed prior to this date.
Do I need to advise DHA that I'm deploying?
As a Member Without Dependants (MWOD) or Member With Dependants - Unaccompanied (MWDU), you must notify DHA via the Deployment Housing Retention form that you are deploying as soon as you are advised by your unit. Your entitlement for housing retention, the subsequent member contribution cessation and any removal entitlement depends on it.
As a Member With Dependants (MWD), your housing remains and you will continue to pay the member contribution. There may be removal elements for your family, you should discuss them with your regional DHA office if you wish to utilise any entitlement.
What if I don't contact DHA?
MWOD and MWDU, you won't be able to action your removal entitlement in a timely manner.
As we won't know you are deployed, you will also be deemed as electing to retain your housing (whether that be RA, surplus SR, MCA or LIA) and you will continue to pay your member contribution for this housing until you or your unit confirm in writing the deployment situation using the Deployment Housing Retention Form.
Where do I find the deployment form to notify DHA?
The form is available on the DHA website, it will also be available on the internal Defence network. You will need to have your unit CO/OC sign the form to confirm the deployment details and housing retention.
I went on deployment prior to the 3rd September 2009, I retained my RA can I now claim for the member contribution to be ceased?
If your deployment includes dates from 1st July 2009 to 2nd September 2009, then the member contribution can be adjusted, back dated until WEF the 1st July 2009 at the earliest i.e. if you deployed from 1st Jun to 30th Nov 09, then your entitlement can be back dated until 1st Jul until 30th Nov 2009.
